Circadian Rhythms of Temperature and Urinary 17-Ketosteroid Excretion in Depressed Patients

Abstract
This study was undertaken to investigate whether there were any differences in some circadian rhythms of the depressed patients from those of the normals. Body temperature and urinary 17-ketosteroid excretions were measured at regular intervals.
As a result, the followings were found
1. Depressed patients showed a phase-advance of 2hours in the time of their temperature peak.
2. The excretion of urinary 17-ketosteroid throughout 24 hours period was bigber in depressed patients than in normal persons.
3. The nadir of mean urinary 17-ketosteroid excretion time in the depressed group was shifted earlier than normal persons.
